It's funny the things that come up in conversation over breakfast. One morning, my landlord in Lazimpat, Kathmandu decided to share a little of his adventures from his time in Australia.
He told me that when he was a student in Australia he would make sure to go somewhere new every weekend. He loved exploring that wonderful country and he made the most of his time while he was out of Nepal.
One weekend he chose to travel from Sydney city to north Sydney and planned his route accordingly. He discovered that he would need to take two trains to get there. He set off on his journey that day but the universe had a surprise in store for him.
The first train journey was uneventful enough and when that train arrived at Martin Place station he got off it and walked along the platform. Then he climbed the staircase leading to the bridge that crossed over the train tracks. His next train was on a different platform at the same station.
It was very fortunate indeed that his next train was not on the same platform that he had just come from.
Because, as he safely crossed the bridge over the train tracks, another train drove straight into the front of the one he had just been travelling in. Many people were injured in the accident but he escaped without even a scratch. He was safely out of the way, above the tracks. He went on to catch his next train without incident and enjoyed his weekend of exploration.
If you ask him, he has no doubt at all that he will not die until it is his time. He has seen how God is taking care of him and he goes fearlessly through his life.
